Bay Area Flamenco Presents
Farruquito & Co., Direct from Spain!
Saturday, October 1, 2016 8:00 PM
Herbst Theatre - San Francisco
Back by popular demand after last March’s sold-out performance of "Improvisao," Farruquito returns to the Bay Area Flamenco Festival for another thrilling evening of Gypsy flamenco dance.
From the legendary Los Farruco dynasty of Seville, Spain, Farruquito (Juan Manuel Fernandez Montoya) is regarded as one of the most faithful representatives of flamenco puro and one of top dancers in the world. Son of the singer El Moreno and dancer La Farruca, he is the chief proponent of the unique dance style founded by his grandfather, the famed El Farruco. Throughout his life he has been immersed in the most pure form of Flamenco and grew up dancing in family gatherings, weddings and baptisms.
He made his début on the international scene in NYC at the age of five in the legendary Broadway production, "Flamenco Puro". Since then he has devoted his entirety to the preservation and innovation of his beloved art form.
At just 15 years old, Farruquito created his first show, Raíces Flamencas (Flamenco Roots). The New York Times considered him "the best artist to set foot in the Big Apple in 2001.” He has also received numerous honors, including the prestigious APDE 2004 Award as a "worthy depositary of the Gypsy dance heritage.”
