Falling hurls the audience into a spectacular realm of hauntingly beautiful contemporary dance. Dancers float, whirl, strive, and fly on a journey through the dynamic forces between upright and impact. Inspired by our abilities to overcome, challenge, and subvert physics, Falling is a meditation on the possibilities and limits of free will. Charles Slender’s compelling choreography is heightened with stirring original music by Emmy Award-winning Dan Cantrell, sumptuous costumes by Miyuki Bierlein, and an imaginative set and lighting design by Darl Andrew Packard.

Choreography: Charles Slender (in collaboration with the performers)
Performers: Liane Burns, Michaela Burns, Shannon Leypoldt, Catherine Newman, LizAnne Roman, and Amanda Whitehead
Dramaturgy: Cara Rose DeFabio
Production Manager: Jeanne Pfeffer

Falling is support by the Columbia Foundation, the Zellerbach Family Foundation, the ODC Creative Work/Play Program, and FACT/SF's numerous individual donors.

Duration: 70 minutes, No intermission.

About FACT/SF:
Founded in 2008, FACT/SF’s primary mission is to create aesthetically sophisticated and rigorously crafted performance events that encourage viewers to feel intensely, think critically, and broaden their perspectives. We believe that we can’t do it alone, and by providing artists and administrators with jobs and community, performing frequently for diverse audiences, and cultivating a committed group of supporters, we increase the visibility and viability of contemporary dance. Described in the San Francisco Bay Guardian as “utterly absorbing”, our work is steeped in the traditions of dance-theatre, postmodern performance, and contemporary ballet. FACT/SF has performed 17 new works in 82 performances in 14 cities. We were selected for the Artist Residency Commissioning Program at CounterPULSE in 2011 and Charles was a CHIME Across Borders mentee with Elizabeth Streb in 2012. Also in 2012, Charles became a certified Teacher of Anouk van Dijk’s Countertechnique, bringing this ground-breaking technique to the SF Bay Area via FACT/SF’s educational programming including workshop intensives and open company classes; there are 15 certified Countertechnique Teachers worldwide. This past season we greatly expanded our touring program, completing our first international tour of eight cities across Russia under the auspices of the US Department of State’s ‘American Seasons’ program.
