Alva Noto, celebrated for his experimental music performances that combine self-made codes of signs, acoustics and visual symbols (most recently at Berlin’s Club Berghain), will give a rare and exclusive concert on Saturday, September 24.
Together with Olaf Bender and Frank Bretschneider he is co-founder of the label 'raster-noton. archiv für ton und nichtton'. Noto‘s diverse musical projects include collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ryoji Ikeda (cyclo.), Blixa Bargeld or Mika Vainio. He has toured extensively through Europe, Asia, South America and the US and most recently scored the music for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s newest film, 'The Revenant' which has been nominated for a Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Critics Choice Award.
Noto’s musical output grows out of his work as an artist. Carsten Nicolai aka Noto, focuses on the transitional area between music, art and science. Seeking to overcome the separation of sensory perception by making scientific phenomenons like sound and light frequencies perceivable for both eyes and ears, Nicolai draws on mathematic patterns such as grids and codes through random, self-organizing structures. His video fades (2006), is currently installed in Wilsey Court and will be on view through September 25.
