After nearly two years of planning, the inaugural Everywon East Bay 1/2 Marathon/5K on July 24 is establishing a new paradigm in endurance sports events. With a guiding philosophy of "improvement through movement," the groundbreaking idea is to inspire 100% of participants to run or walk on behalf of their choice of local charities, some with national and international reach.
Everywon is a community fundraising platform that supports 16 pre-selected local causes across seven vital social purpose categories - - Animals, Arts, Community, Education, Environment, Health and Youth. The slate of nonprofits for the 2016 Everywon East Bay includes Berkeley Humane, Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS), CAL North Youth Soccer, East Bay Community Foundation, First Place for Youth, Freight & Salvage, ICA Fund Good Jobs, Lazarex Cancer Foundation, Martial Arts Training & Scholarships (MATS), Oakland Literacy Coalition, Oakland PAL, Pacific Center, The Bread Project, The Hidden Genius Project, The Unity Council and YEAH!
Everywon East Bay will run on scenic courses between Berkeley and Oakland, highlighting the best of both communities . Reasonable entry fees and modest fundraising goals make the event accessible to most participants.
