A sleeping giant of the electronic music world, Douglas Appling – more commonly known as Emancipator – has quietly established himself as a mainstay in the electronic music scene since the release of his debut album, Soon It Will Be Cold Enough in 2006. Classically-trained as a violinist from an early age, Appling's organic approach to electronic music production draws inspiration from a wide range of international cultures and musical genres, culminating in a refreshingly authentic brand of electronic music that has infiltrated global consciousness. 2015 was a busy year having released Live In Athens in June, and Dusk to Dawn Remixes – a remix album featuring massively-popular contributions from the likes of ODESZA, Little People, Eliot Lipp, and more – in July, 2015 and now his first full length album in three years, Seven Seas. Seven Seas is the product of over two years of work, collaborations, experiences, and live performances all culminating in a cohesive collection of songs that solidifies that Emancipator is only getting better with age.

Tor
http://www.tormusic.net

Tor was raised in a small mountain town on Canada's west coast where he started experimenting with music production as a teenager. He further honed his skills while living in Australia, running a small recording studio and remixing some prominent Australian producers. He later produced the Sufjan Stevens hip hop mashup album 'Illinoize', which garnered a lot of critical and audience acclaim. Now based in Vancouver and inspired by the positive feedback he received from his previous projects, he decided to finally produce the album he had been wanting to make for almost 10 years: 'Drum Therapy'. It combines layers of downtempo melodic beats, organic instrumentation, and the unmistakable sounds of dusty samples. For the album, Tor mined everything from 60's Italian film scores and long-lost Turkish psych records, to Celtic folk hymns, exotic eastern instruments and deep south gospel. He also played many of the non-sampled elements himself, and treated the sounds to give them the warmth & texture he had always wanted the album to have.

Tor is the first artist signed to Emancipator's newly minted label 'Loci Records', and is continuing to perform live after adapting his music for multiple festival performances over the summer of 2012.

Edamame
http://www.edamamebeats.com/music/

Hailing from Chicago, Edamame is the stage name of 27-year-old ambient electronic music producer Ed Harris. With sounds equally inspired by the great outdoors and the worldís divergent cultures, Ed's productions often teem with organic sonic textures personally field-recorded during his planetary exploration. Edamame has carved out his unique sound by synthesizing instrumental hip hop with downtempo melodies further informed by his deep love for world music. From his musical beginnings a trombonist, he became a nationally touring death metal vocalist before gradually growing out of screaming on stage. Ed made the 180-degree musical transition to creating what he in his own words describes as ìsongs that make you float,î nourishing a previously underserved love for ambient electronic music in the process. 303 Magazine describes Edís music as ìmore of an organic experience than emotion-provoking, [inviting] his listeners on a brainwave joyride.î Since starting in 2012, Edamame has played live to fans on both coasts as well as internationally, prompting music from his nine albums to score thousands of downloads in addition to airtime on radio stations around the world.

Lapa
http://lapamusic.com

IIlya Goldberglya Goldberg began training in classical violin at an early age in his birthplace of Perm, Russia. Since moving to the States in 2000 to pursue music full-time, his skill and dedication has guided him on the nomad's path from the Cleveland Institute of Music to international tours out of his home base in Portland, Oregon. In the classical realm, Ilya has performed with several Russian and American orchestras, chamber groups, and as a soloist. With over a decade of experience as a chameleonic studio musician on violin, viola, and mandolin he is lauded for his ability to fluidly adapt his improvisational mastery to any genre. Ilya also fills a unique niche by infusing electronic music with classical technique and a sensibility spanning epochs of music. His collaborators include Random Rab, Lynx, Rena Jones, The Human Experience, Future Simple Project and Devochka. Currently, he performs and works closely with innovative electronic trip-hop producer Emancipator.
As a producer under the moniker Lapa, Ilya weaves together musical stories with complexly textured harmonies, expansive melodies, and intricately layered beats. His music blurs borders and transcends boundaries, illuminating the resonance of universal forces and teleporting people to wild, dream-like places of serenity and connection.

More about Emancipator
A sleeping giant of the electronic music world, Douglas Appling - more commonly known as Emancipator - has quietly established himself as a mainstay in the electronic music scene since the release of his debut album, Soon It Will Be Cold Enough in 2006. Classically-trained as a violinist from an early age, Appling's organic approach to trip-hop and downtempo draws inspiration from a wide range of international cultures and musical genres, culminating in a refreshingly authentic brand of electronic music that has infiltrated global consciousness.

Originally performing as a solo act, Appling quickly recruited the immensely-talented Ilya Goldberg to perform alongside him during Emancipator's live sets. In 2015, Appling expanded the Emancipator live experience further with the addition of a drummer and a bassist, adding a completely new organic dimension to his live performances. Now known as the Emancipator Ensemble, the talented four-piece is pushing the limits of what it means to be electronic musicians through their compelling, sophisticated performances.

Having released Live In Athens in June, and Dusk to Dawn Remixes - a remix album featuring massively-popular contributions from the likes of ODESZA, Little People, Eliot Lipp, and more - in July, 2015 sees Emancipator making an ambitious reappearance. This fall will mark his official return as he gears up to release his fourth full length LP, entitled Seven Seas, his first studio album in nearly three years. The culmination of over two years of work and countless collaborations, experiences, and live performances, Seven Seas will surely prove to be a defining chapter in the Emancipator legacy.
