Join us for the official album release party! EL METATE premiers their latest album Paint The Town Metate with special guests Brass Animals
Join us for the official release of PAINT THE TOWN METATE an album by San Francisco’s ownEL METATE EL METATE El Metate is a psychedelic spacefunk collective from San Francisco that formed in the summer of 2013. Their recorded body of work runs the gamut from soaring, guitar-fueled originals that recall Soulive and Boogaloo Joe Jones to reinterpretations of rare groove classics awash in a psychedelic haze of Hammond Organ and Fender Rhodes. On any given night – be it a sojourn down the coast to some of the western seaboard’s most storied musical outposts, or an all night, postmodern/pre-apocalyptic space odyssey in their hometown of San Francisco – El Metate is a band possessed. After headlining sold-out shows to enthusiastic (if not rabid) audiences and sharing the stage with Monophonics, Tea Leaf Green, Robert Walter’s 20th Congress, Con Brio, Wil Blades, and members of Lettuce, El Metate has begun to take the show on the road. With a West Coast tour under their belts and a debut album slated for early 2016, these young musical retrofuturists are ready to share their music the masses. BRASS ANIMALS Brass Animals formed in San Francisco in 2013 with a simple vision: music to make people dance. Fusing New Orleans-style brass band tradition with an eclectic blend of hip-hop, R&B, funk and pop, the band serves up explosive renditions of recent favorites by artists like Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Aaliyah, Kanye West, and Janelle Monáe, and puts their own spin on vintage classics by Stevie Wonder, Sly & the Family Stone, Funkadelic, Labelle and more. A typical Brass Animals gig features hard-hitting brass-led jams plus a set of lead vocal stylings from the divine Niki Stone. Riding high on jam-packed shows throughout the Bay Area, from the stages at Brick & Mortar Music Hall and the Boom Boom Room to outdoor festivals in the East Bay, South Bay and beyond, the band has solidified as a mainstay among the burgeoning west coast brass band scene. Brass Animals continues to break new ground, merging modern and classic sounds to make you move.
