Educational Film screening of Beyond Measure by Vicki Abeles

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Brightworks School (see times)
Beyond Measure examines the revolution that is brewing in public schools across the country from rural Kentucky to New York City, and the schools that are breaking away from an outmoded, test-driven education to shape a new vision for our classrooms. This film explores an emerging paradigm-shift driven from the ground up by students, parents, and educators: an educational paradigm that values personal growth over test scores, inquiry over mimicry, passion over rankings. The transformation of every student rather than the transmission of facts or formulas. Beyond Measure offers a positive picture of what’s possible in American education when communities decide they are ready for change. The final question is, are you?

Post screening discussion. Vicki Abeles will be joined by Gever Tulley, founder and Education Architect for Brightworks School.
Abeles began her career as a Wall Street attorney and turned filmmaker in 2007 when she co-directed the award winning documentary, Race to Nowhere, a vivid portrayal of the pressure-cooker culture dominating America’s schools.
Gever Tulley is founder and Educational Architect at Brightworks. He also founded Tinkering School in 2005. He teaches and speaks around the world, and has appeared at TED, twice and written for MAKE. He is author of Fifty Dangerous Things (you should let your children do).
