Description
Each year, New Year's Eve parties wash away the old and bring in the new. This year, that time-honored tradition has taken on a larger significance, with the historic election of Barack Obama as 44th President of the United States.

With the entire world still buzzing over Obama's ascendancy, multiculturalism isn't just an ideal anymore - it's the wave of the future. And what better way to celebrate this evolutionary step in global consciousness than a multicultural New Years Extravaganza?

Produced by Maisha Productions, Eclectic Fever is a vibrant celebration of musical diversity which resonates with President-elect Obama's overall message of inclusiveness and mutual respect for everyone -- no matter what their cultural background. Recognized as one of San Francisco's premier NYE events by media outlets like the SF Chronicle, Examiner, and Bay Guardian, Eclectic Fever offers revelers a spectacular exhibition of live music and dance from around the world in one of the city's most impressive venues-- the massive GiftCenter Pavilion. Proceeds benefit Uganda's House of Hope

With an electrifying, jam-packed lineup of some of the Bay's best world music and dance acts, Eclectic Fever embodies the emerging multicultural vibe happening in America and the world - it's not only change you can believe in, but change you can dance to.

ECLECTIC FEVER: PRESS REVIEWS AND FEATURES

THE ONION
It sounds kind of cliche at this point, but thanks to Obama's Election, the hope surrounding 2009 is something that's truly worth celebrating. Not that the past years have been as sober as they have been sobering, but now the booze is going to be used to lubricate the joy rather than drown the sorrow. Eclectic fever features a diverse lineup of musicians, Dj's and dancers celebrating sounds from around the world. The first 500 people receive free masks, but all the guest get complimentary warm and fuzzy feelings knowing that proceeds are going to the House of Hope in Uganda - Marc Hawthorne

SAN FRANCISCO BAY GUARDIAN NYE PICK:
"Eclectic Fever" whisks partiera on an international music escapade for New Year's Eve. Headliners Sila and the Afrofunk Experience join blaring horns, emphatic bass, and groovy percussion with Sila Mutungi's energetic vocals. The B-Side Players infuse dub vibes and political lyrics with Latin drums and rhythms, while Filipino reggae group Native Elements showcase their mellow, Jamaican-rooted tunes. If the Multicontinental collection of live performers doesn't capture your attention, then how about the benevolent cause? A portion of the proceeds will go to House of Hope, an orphanage in Africa that houses children ravaged by famine and disease. - Kevin Lee - San Francisco Bay Guardian
