Doblar la Tierra

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Random Parts (see times)
Random Parts is pleased to present Doblar la Tierra, a solo exhibition by Javier Arce, based in Santander, Spain.

Arce’s work examines the power of the emblematic image and how it can become banal through its overuse and charged historical connotations. In a society where we are constantly bombarded with images through the seemingly random downloading of the web, Arce’s
work examines our relationship with the image and its cultural, ideological, and commercial ramifications.

For this exhibition - culminating after a three-week residency at Random Parts - Arce will present a series of drawings, video and sculpture exploring the economic situation of the United States; a possible reflection of what’s been happening in Spain. In his imagery, Arce evokes the poetic by playing with reality and interpretation, “focusing on the multiple readings that accrue around a single image and the network of relationships they set up - stories, digressions, extensions, and parallelisms” *

Javier Arce (b. 1973, Santander, Spain) has a degree in Engraving from the Escuela de Artes Aplicadas in Oviedo, an Honors Degree in Fine Art at the Basque Country University and his Masters in Sculpture from the Wimbledon School of Fine Art. In 2008, he was granted the International Studio and Curatorial Program in New York and has shown internationally including, Paris (FR), Munich (DE), Brasilia (BR), Zagreb (HR), Sibiu (RO), Ljubljana (SI), London (UK), Bangkok (TH), Manila (PH), Vieques (PR), and several cities in Spain.

* From the late writer and art critic Kevin Power’s analysis of Arce’s work in Transnational Narrations: Paperworks.
