Oakland's distinguished Dimensions Dance Theater, among the oldest African American dance companies on the West Coast, presents Project Panther, for one night only, on Saturday October 15, at 8 pm in the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts, Oakland.
Project Panther revisits the history of the revolutionary, contentious, influential and often misunderstood Black Panther Party, which was founded in Oakland in 1966 in response to widespread police brutality in African American communities across the country. The work, with new choreography and text by Artistic Director Deborah Vaughan, features an original jazz score by Oakland pianist Glen Pearson, performed live by a quartet.
