Dickson Schneider Opening Reception

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at tmoro projects (see times)
tmoro projects is please to present Supply and Demand by Dickson Schneider. In Supply and Demand, the Free Art Project, Santa Clara, the Gallery will be showing 10 of Schneider's works each day. The work is free to the public to look at but also free to take home. The title indicates a wrinkle for this show – there is a limited supply of free art available each day. This idea reflects Schneider's curiosity about the act of giving – he has never given away all of the work he has made for an exhibition and wonders what it means to restrict the supply. New work will not be put up as the gallery is emptied until the next day. Please join us to for a conversation with Dickson Schneider (the artist) and Dongsoo Shin, an Economist at Santa Clara University.

Dickson Schneider teaches painting and art at California State University East Bay. He is represented in California by Autobody Fine Art. His work is in collections from London to Hong Kong. Mr. Schneider is the author of Every Angler's Guide to Amazing Lures and Flies, Viking, 1997. Over the past five years Schneider has created over 4,000 works of art to give away to the public on the street in Oakland and last December at the commercially charged “bling” spectacle of Art Basel Miami. In July he took the Project to the Kunstraum Tapir gallery in Berlin, Germany and made art there which was displayed in the gallery and available free to passersby. The Berlin project was featured on Deutschlandradio, a national Art and Culture program. Last November he and the Free Art Project spent a month at the Paolo Mejia Gallery in San Francisco.

tmoro projects is an independent, nonprofit organization that serves as a catalyst for contemporary art. Located in the heart of Santa Clara County (Silicon Valley), tmoro projects seeks to enrich this community through a range of contemporary art exhibitions and public programs. It is run with the help of Bay Area artists, scholars and students. It is not driven by commercial interests and hence we do not have a fixed roster of artists.
