Desta Gallery Presents: Visual Poetry

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Desta Gallery presents their newest exhibit, Visual Poetry, featuring painter Bryn Craig, Robin Brandes and Leisha Douglas.

The public is invited to a meet and greet artist reception on October 7th from 6pm – 8pm.

Bryn Craig
Oil Paintings

Although his work is representational, Craig is not a photo realist. He says, "I look for the poetry in even the most ordinary subjects, not just the surface appearance. I hope to stimulate that same response in the viewer". His subjects range from the surf crashing wildly on a rocky coastline in northern California to a quiet corner in a city at night, to a rural landscape and even the occasional portrait.

He uses traditional techniques and materials (oil on canvas, watercolor on paper) and is not interested in what he considers unnecessary showmanship.

Craig is a graduate of the Philadelphia Museum College of Art and attended the Art Students League of New York. His influences are many and varied from Fairfield Porter, to John Singer Sargent, but he is most identified with Edward Hopper. Influenced by, but very much true to his own style and outlook.

Robin Brandes and Leisha Douglas
Art and Pottery Book – To be lost in nature is to be found

To be lost in nature is to be found is a visual and verbal contemplation. The book offers the reader to reflect on their relationship with the natural world. Each page is an invitation to deepen awareness and appreciation for nature and our indissoluble relationship to it.

When Robin Brandes and Leisha Douglas met 22 years ago in Bali, Indonesia for a healing arts tour, they discovered they were kindred spirits and would remain close friends thereafter. Despite living on opposite coasts, they continued to share and cultivate their mutual love of art, poetry, meditation and hiking in the woods (not to mention consignment shopping) together.

This book is their inaugural collaboration of their respective creative talents. Robin brings her virtuosity as a graphic designer, painter, book designer and bookbinder while Leisha brings her many years as a published poet and writer to this project. To be lost in nature is to be found invites the reader into a contemplative relationship with our natural world.

Public Information: Artist reception is FREE and open to the public. For more information visit https://www.destagallery.com or call 415- 524-8932.
