Deep East: Mossmoss, M.O.D., Nackt

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Lounge 3411 (see times)
In the past few months we've brought out some of the best local DJ talent to the unassuming Lounge 3411 in East Oakland. Chris Lum and Homero Espinosa from Moulton Music, Ethan Miller from FnF, and Brian Knarfield from DTE, just to name a couple. In just a few short months, we've gone from scrambling to book DJs one week in advance, to now booking out 3 months ahead. Our great vibe is all thanks to the warm crowd of regulars, eager to dance and hang out, coupled with the talented DJs we are honored to have play for us each week.

I'm particularly excited about June 20 because we are featuring one of my favorite local DJs, MossMoss. Part of what is so exciting about the Deep East party for me is booking local DJs that often open up for big international artists, and give them a chance to headline! I love seeing MossMoss warm up a crowd (his opening set for Scuba was spot-on), but I'm really looking forward to hearing how he'll take the dance floor up as the headline DJ!

MossMoss

The past year has been a big one for MossMoss, you might have seen him warm up the crowd for Scuba, build a dance floor from nothing for Nicolas Jaar, or close the night after Matthew Dear. I met MossMoss, aka Mattie Bowen, about a year ago, and I've been consistently impressed with his excellent selection. He was the first As You Like It resident, and his versatility can really be seen in the wide range of slots he plays, opening the night, closing the night, peak-hour, and off-peak. MossMoss has a bit of everything in his bag, from Ambient, Deep House, to driving hard Techno and he always seems to know what the dance floor is craving.

An artist by nature and a listener by choice, his wandering sets often paint landscapes of light and dark patterns, textures, and melancholy melody. Heavily influenced by a long stint in the Mid West in proximity to Detroit and Chicago, he brings that influence to the Bay Area and draws on The City and its colorful nightlife for constant immersive inspiration. I often catch MossMoss opening up for exciting international artists, expertly building the dance floor from scratch. Now I'm looking forward to hearing him take the spotlight and cut loose as a headliner!

M.O.D.
http://www.soundcloud.com/myowndevice

M.O.D.’s introduction into the world of electronic music began in 1997. Artist’s like Roni Size/Reprazent, Orbital, and The Chemical Brothers left a permanent imprint on the young man’s musical path. In the year 2000 M.O.D. began his odyssey as a DJ. Never one to be short-sighted, his eclecticism began early on with an appetite for drum and bass, deep and progressive house, turntablism, and finally nu-skool breaks. His fervent passion for breakbeats led to his involvement with San Francisco based collective Evil Breaks. From 2004 to 2010, Evil Breaks went on to produce a slew of high quality events, many of which introduced the bay area to imported talent from around the world.

Today M.O.D. can be found representing the Strategik crew. You may have noticed that we here at Deep East are big fans of Strategik! Last month we welcomed DJ Loryn, also part of the legendary crew, and now we're excited to invite M.O.D. to Deep East as well! From tech-house and minimal techno, to golden era hip-hop and old-school drum and bass, M.O.D. remains dedicated to diverse rhythms.

Nackt

Nackt is a founding member of the Deep East crew, happy to be bringing the Bay Area's finest local DJ talent to Oakland! A native of the East Bay, Nackt grew up playing jazz saxophone and collecting Funk and Soul records. After becoming obsessed with Hip-Hop in the 90's, his extensive vinyl collection was put to good use as sample fuel in Downtempo and Hip-Hop production teams. Nackt worked the house party circuit and eventually earned a weekly residency at Oakland landmark, Ruby Room. Excited by the House and Garage revival happening in the UK Bass scene, Nackt has shifted focus to DJ funky Deep House, Techno, and Bass-heavy beats from across the globe. Nackt's thorough musical knowledge makes for an eclectic set, sure to please the discerning listener with beats heavy enough to get a dance floor shaking.
