| Description When Bill Clinton was elected president in 1992, he named Dee Dee Myers as his press secretary, the first woman and, at 31, one of the youngest people ever to hold the job. But as Myers discusses in her first book, the "dream job" wasn't quite what she had imagine. "Suddenly, I found myself staring down the barrel of a predicament that I knew was all too common among women: responsibility without corresponding authority," she says. And she struggled. Now Myers paints an honest, provocative and highly entertaining portrait of women in public life today, and argues that the increased presence and power of women in public has already generated enormous, positive change - but that getting to a place where equality is not a slogan but a way of life will demand more. Myers is currently a political commentator for MSNBC and contributing editor for Vanity Fair. 7:00 PM at Cody's Fourth Street (seating beginning at 6 PM) |
