We’re extremely pleased to host one of the true living legends of electronic music, Fourth of July weekend!

We’re extremely pleased to host one of the true living legends of electronic music, Fourth of July weekend!
The ephemeral world of deejaying ensures that the superstars of today are quickly forgotten tomorrow; that if you can make it five or ten years with a few hits under your belt and some big name clubs on your resume, you’re a star. Make it to 20 years and you’re a legend destined for musical immortality.
So what do you call David Morales, whose upcoming album (name TBD) celebrates the pioneer’s astounding 35th year in music?
In the history of dance music, Morales’ name is on Page 1, Chapter 1. The Brooklyn-bred deejay remains one of the world’s most respected and influential deejays, producers and remixers; one of only a handful that can rightly claim to be there from the beginning and still rock it just as hard at any club today. DJ Times doesn’t call just anybody “one of New York’s greatest house DJs”. This third album and first since 2004’s 2 Worlds Collide, proves that the NYC legend shows no signs of slowing down or resting on his laurels.
A deejay since the age of 14, Morales was a fixture at such seminal spots at The Loft and Paradise Garage before establishing one of New York’s most influential club residencies at Red Zone. While nights were devoted to the club, Morales spent his days producing future house classics and remixing everyone from Madonna to Aretha Franklin to U2. One of music’s most prolific remixers—his catalog numbers in the hundreds–Morales earned worldwide success with a string of hits with Mariah Carey, picking up a Grammy in 1998 Remixer of the Year along the way.
Morales quickly became one of dance music’s first Superstar DJs, spinning in front of thousands at legendary places like Pacha in Ibiza and Ministry of Sound in London. Classics such as “Finally” CeCe Peniston,” “Needin’ U” Morales and “Dreamlover” Mariah Carey all bore Morales’ production stamp. And as the 1980s and ‘90s gave way to the new millennium, Morales remains in demand as ever, performing still-talked about all-night sets at Montreal’s Stereo and elsewhere.
A true Renaissance Man, Morales branched out early on a number of different ventures. In addition to being one of the most consistently in-demand deejays in the world, the entrepreneur has successfully run Def Mix, the production company he founded with longtime business partner Judy Weinstein, for over 20 years, while at one time co-owning Stereo nightclub in Montreal and Sonic in Toronto. Morales has also appeared as a model for numerous companies as well as a radio and television personality, becoming the face of dance music and one of its proudest and most visible ambassadors.
“I’m into my fourth decade of music and have seen things change drastically,” says Morales. “But what hasn’t changed is that a good deejay always plays for the audience. After all, it’s a party and I still enjoy a great party with lots of fun and energy. Nothing beats a bunch of smiling faces.”
While Morales has continued to put out a steady stream of singles and remixes, the next project marks his long-awaited return to the full-length album. “With (album), the plan was for me to just go into the studio and have fun,” says Morales. “There was no formula or preconceived ideas and I was in complete control of the project. I don’t have the pressure of anyone telling me what I should or shouldn’t do.”
“My sound has definitely evolved with the times,” admits Morales. “I can’t keep doing the same thing. But as the years go on, the music’s still in my blood and that’s never going to change. I’m excited to be putting out (album) because I’m looking forward to doing something different and I’m in a creative mode.”
“Nervous? Nah. I’ve been doing this for a long time. My only mistake is letting too much time go by between albums.”
