From the midst of Oakland's newest generation of brash, experimental music comes a musician that embodies free expression and energy while also delivering a bit more. Dario Slavazza’s debut EP, Guilty Steps, due out on June 10, draws listeners in again and again with powerful, ecstatic bursts and then lulls them back down to earth with sweet, personal lyrics, which are simultaneously innocent and boldly mature. In the midst of solid beats and tidal guitar swells, imagery of foreign landscapes are contrasted with vulnerable first-person confessions.

Guilty Steps is the first of three EPs expected from Slavazza in the next year’s time. The beginning of a solo music career set to match Slavazza’s unquenchable thirst for life and travel.

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and educated on the sunny shores of Santa Barbara, Dario Slavazza is a multi-instrumentalist with a strong and consistent musical voice. Above and beyond his own musical output, he works for the incomparable Magik*Magik Orchestra, as an arranger and production director, as a studio manager for the future driven Zoo Labs music incubator and recording studio, and actively models for various fashion groups.

Slavazza spent years working in biotech – a job that took him all around the globe – before deciding to focus solely on music. On land he prefers to travel via motorcycle, over car, but is also an avid sailor, which he picked up while at school in Santa Barbara. In fact, many of the songs contained on Guilty Steps, and the subsequent EPs, were written on a small boat, on a spear fishing trip.

Inspired by travel, loves both lost and conquered and a voracious hunger to see as much of the world as a single set of eyes can, he’s crafted this collection of songs with California always in mind. The series of snapshots that make up each story are strung together with soulful, swooning ebbs amidst marching high-energy rhythmic flows.
