Picture Atlantic
For 11 years now, Picture Atlantic have been scoring the soundtrack to the adult half of their lifelong friendship. What started with casual guitar lessons from singer/guitarist Nikolaus Bartunek’s babysitter has long since turned into the vehicle for dealing with many of life’s great trials. Having survived high school bullying, brief diversions of faith, and myriad other early-adulthood challenges, the band's new album - Assouf - finds the four-piece matured and steadfast in their approach. If this is the latest in their saga, then new single, Lord Have Mercy, is the part where the protagonists learn that humor is the best weapon. Written in the wake of an unpleasant exchange with a real life Ari Gold, Bartunek’s wit cuts as he sarcastically questions his and the band's future. Fortunately, the outcome is apparent in the very fact that Assouf is finished and ready to accompany Picture Atlantic back to their happy place under the spotlight.
The Y Axes
San Francisco's The Y Axes are a unique amalgam of anachronistic sound. Drawing influence from a myriad era of popular and esoteric music to craft a fun original style. Lush synths, technical guitar, and groovy rhythms help drive their quirky compelling stories about coming of age in chaos and finding love in the direst of situations. The Y Axes are pop for music nerds.
