Dale Ann's a native of eastern Kentucky, growing up in a tar- and paper-covered shack near Loretta Lynn's childhood home, the daughter of a coal-mining Baptist minister. She's been singing professionally since she was 14, and understands her culture and traditions: "The kids today in bluegrass, it’s a wonderful energy, but it’s a different energy. And I think people my age might be the last of that generation that really lived those songs hardcore."
