Cyanotic: Chicago is home to plenty of genre blending music, and metal meets industrial tunes of Cyanotic are no exception. Formed way back at the turn of the century, 2002 that is, Cyanotic has bringing hard and heavy music to the people who want not only a mechanical beat but also the riffs of rock. Sean Payne, the brain behind the band, leans on transhumanism themes with tongue firmly in cheek. Who wouldn't want to take advantage of what both robots and humans have to offer? As a live act, the band consists of Payne manning the microphone and meandering maliciously around the stage, while a live band plays synths, drums, guitar, and makes eloquent use of samples. Every set is a forceful performance, where Cyanotic brings full on aggression to the stage. Synthesizers and feedback combine to make a perfect storm of noise, while industrial beats dance over the background. Sometimes the band slows it down with haunting synths, just so we can catch our breaths, before laying on the heavy guitar and the disturbing vocals, which are somewhere between a robot talking and a metal head's death growls. Glitchy cyberpunks will rejoice -- Cyanotic has the ability to make them dance and bring them back to reality with a growled slap in the face.
