Conjunto ChappottÃn y Sus Estrellas is one of the most renowned Son bands in Cuba. Son Cubano is a style of music and dance that originated in Cuba and gained worldwide popularity in the 1930s. Son combines the structure and elements of Spanish canción and guitar with African rhythms and percussion. Conjunto Cappottin was founded in the ‘40s by the legendary Arsenio Rodriguez, an innovative bandleader who popularized the addition of reed and brass instruments over a traditional Cuban Son rhythm section, inspiring a new wave of high-powered Latin and Latin-jazz ensembles throughout the '50s and '60s, now referred to as Salsa music. The band’s current leaders trumpeter/musical director Jesus Angel Chappotin Coto and percussionist/singer Miguel Cuni, Jr. are both descendents of the band’s original leaders.
