The ComeUnion six-CD set features six full length, continuous mixes from Bay Area and Burning Man DJs including Rhythmystic (Rhythm Society), rrrus (Space Cowboys), Shanti (Triple Power), Giamma (Triple Power, Seisix), Star-D (Rhythm Society, RWB), and Mike W. (Retro Active).
The ComeUnion CD Release Event will feature four of the six participating DJs including Shanti, Giamma, Rhythmystic, and Star-D. This extensive set, comprised of various electronic dance music styles, was produced to assist in raising awareness and funds for the Conexus Cathedral Project, an anchoring installation and structure at the 2006 Burning Man Arts Festival, an annual art festival and temporary community based on radical self-expression and self-reliance in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada.
The inter- and non-denominational Conexus Cathedral installation is made possible, in part, through a grant from the Black Rock Arts Foundation. To fully realize the bold vision behind the project, Conexus Village has an aim to raise an additional $15,000 through CD sales and other fundraising efforts.
The Conexus Cathedral is representative of a gothic cathedral, but adapted to modern needs and desert realities. The Cathedral will be architected with 40- foot high columns, flying buttresses, open vaulting, and gothic peaked arches, and will create a footprint roughly ½ the size of San Francisco’s famed Grace Cathedral. This project will create sanctuary for the Black Rock City community, as well as aspire to inspire residents to participate and interact with it though ritual, art, and dance.
In addition to performances by ComeUnion DJs, the ComeUnion CD Release Event will feature burlesque performances by Banana Peel and Coconut Cream from prominent dance collective, House of Burlesque. Proceeds from the ComeUnion CD set and the ComeUnion CD Release Event will go to support the Conexus Cathedral Project.
