Chandran Gallery is pleased to announce COLLAGES, a one night only exhibition by New York artist, Sam Friedman. In his West Coast debut, the artist departs from his well-known paintings to unveil over 200 new collages that continue his exploration of the natural world.
Sam Friedman is a highly recognized painter known for his dismantling and reinterpretation of the natural landscape. His study of line, color and form is a balance of dichotomies; fluidity and precision, representational and abstract, ease and spontaneity. His art practice has been heavily informed by his tenure as a studio assistant to the artist KAWS, as well as his commercial experience creating artwork for companies and publications such as The New York Times.
COLLAGES is a one night only exhibition by Sam Friedman comprised of over 200 new works. The exhibition is the artist’s first exhibition utilizing the medium of collage--a striking shift from his distinctive paintings. While his paintings are generally large-scale, the new works are engaging 7”x7” and “6x9” vignettes depicting abstract landscapes and elements of the natural world.
