Must-Stops in the Neighborhood
Going to the Lower Haight usually means that there is a night of bar hopping and cheap eating in the very near future. For drinking there's Toronado, Molotov's, Mad Dog in the Fog, and Noc Noc, and for good but cheap food perfect for pre- or post-imbibing, there's Naan N' Chutney, Ali Baba's, Rosamunde, and a late snack of pizza from Mythic or Volare's, but lately there's a lot more to this neighborhood than food and drink. Style that goes to your head
Long gone are the days when proper ladies and gentlemen were never seen in public without a hat, but people today still like to put on a new bonnet at Easter. Until the other day, I didn't even know that there were "hat holidays", but Lis Smith of ADS Hats on Valencia in the Mission said that following Easter, the Kentucky Derby is the most popular day for hat purchases. But with a month and a half of rain in San Francisco, there hasn't been much use for a hat to keep the spring sun out of our eyes. More

Fashionably Functional Bags
From its conception in New York in the 50s to present day, the messenger bag has evolved from a drab component of a workman's ensemble to a unisex must-have fashion accessory, all the while never losing its functionality. In 1989 San Francisco bike messenger Rob Honeycutt invested $200 for a used Singer sewing machine, fabric and buckles to craft 50 no-name black handlebar bags he dubbed Scumbags, which would later bear the brand name Timbuk2. Fast forward to April 2006: the first Timbuk2 brick and mortar store opens its doors to the public after more than 15 years of providing bags to a growing loyal user base. More

A Friendly Store and Art Gallery
Among the antiques and furniture stores of the Market Street "deco ghetto" area is a hip newcomer called The Seventh Heart. Opened in December 2005 by Jessica Cuevas and Mark Hoke, who met almost 14 years ago in a San Jose high school, the store specializes in clothes as well as new and vintage accessories for young urbanites. Haute Couture within Reach
The French phrase "haute couture" translates to "high fashion" and is synonymous with several things: highest quality, superb (expensive) materials, unique/custom designs and exquisite detail-often executed by hand. As such, clothing bearing the label is usually the opposite of affordable for most women. However, those of us who are of more modest means are in for a treat: local couturiere Colleen Quen is opening her doors tomorrow and next Saturday, April 8th for a sample sale you won't want to miss. Elegant With a Capital E
When local business owner Levi Strauss started making work pants for miners in 1873, jeans were seen as sturdy and practical pants for the working class. Things have changed quite a bit in the denim world. These days, designers around the world offer luxury jeans and San Francisco's very own denim king, Levi's, is a force with which to be reckoned. Not a T-Shirt Shop
Some people are thrilled to the bone to bring home new clothing from boutiques and department stores. Others prefer a diet of thrift store wares. Both groups may find that graphic design house My Trick Pony adds just the right amount of personal flair so as to distinguish its patrons from the masses. More

A Hit, & Mission To Complete
At 01:30 AM two unidentified men arrived at the scene. Within the next six hours, hundreds of casually dressed civilians had descended upon the same scene, hurrying along Powell Street and around a dark corner. By 09:59 AM security guards braced themselves for the imminent attack -- H&M was about to open its doors. More
