Celebrate The Mexican Museum’s 40th anniversary at a special exhibit that recognizes Latino artists. The five artists invited to participate each nominated another artist for inclusion in the exhibit, resulting in diverse viewpoints, approaches, media, eras, and ethnic backgrounds. And guest curator Anthony Torres explores connections, differences, similarities, and visual sensibilities among the different artworks.
The Community Opening Reception takes place Thursday, June 23, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
The exhibit seeks to express contemporary Latino art as a diffuse and constantly changing creative subject that has evolved beyond geography, ethnic identities, aesthetics, and history to embrace new and unexpected directions and dialogues. This emerging intellectual discourse grew naturally from the social struggles for recognition and equality of the 1960s and 1970s that led to the establishment of The Mexican Museum and other cultural institutions.
