Cheryl Dunye is a native of Liberia, and holds an MFA from Rutgers University. Her fourth feature film, The Owls, was celebrated at national and international film festivals in 2010. Her earlier films My Baby’s Daddy, Stranger Inside, and The Watermelon Woman have received many awards and wide critical acclaim. Her other works have premiered at film festivals and museums worldwide. Presently based in Oakland, Dunye is assistant professor in the Department of Cinema at San Francisco State University.
