Cecile Whiting is a Chancellor's Professor of Art History and Professor of Visual Studies at the University of California, Irvine. Professor Whiting examines mid-twentieth century American art and has published three books on this subject: Antifacism in American Art, A Taste For Pop: Pop Art, Gender, and Consumer Culture, and Pop L.A.: Art and the City in the 1960s. Pop L.A.:Art and the City in the 1960s, her most recent book, was awarded the 21st Charles C. Eldredge Prize by the Smithsonian American Art Museum for outstanding scholarship in the field of American Art. At present, she is researching the apocalyptic imaginary in 1950s and early 1960s art practice.
