Casey Weldon - "Tropefiend"

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Spoke Art is pleased to present a new solo exhibition from gallery artist Casey Weldon.
Returning for his third solo at the gallery, “Tropefiend” is an extensive exploration into Weldon’s stylized world, resulting in a surreal display of subtle wit and strange beauty.

Consisting of new paintings, Weldon’s latest body of work delves into contemporary themes such as metaphysical existence and our unnatural connection to and modern relationship with nature. Utilizing elements of glowing and bioluminescent subjects, Weldon explains that his work has developed to understand a larger concept of longevity, marked by this kind of illuminated aesthetic. “I think on one hand, the color palette I work with has been gradually getting darker, and I was getting really into recreating the glowing and reflecting colors of bright lights. The subject matter has been more about dying man made media, like television, radio, and print, and having them lost in the overgrowth of the constant of nature. It's more natural than magical. Maybe supernatural” explains the artist.

Weldon’s work has always used beauty and surreal iconography to convey dark humor narratives and insight into our distorted realities. There has always been a constant exchange between the apparent and symbolic in his work, showcasing true range from him as an artist. This dialogue between nature and technology are at the forefront of Weldon’s subjects and through his clever pop culture inspired depictions lie deeper ideological meanings.

Aesthetically, this new body of work plays with darker color palettes juxtaposed by his bright signature pastel tones. The created effect is a fantastical melancholic atmosphere for his figures to rest in. Masterly executed, Weldon’s new works explore the intricacies of the human dilemma through visually stunning paintings, a triumph for his third solo at Spoke Art.

Please join us June 6th for the opening reception of “Tropefiend” Complimentary beverages will be served and the artist will be in attendance.
