About Carmel Mission Basilica

This historic Mission has been renovated to it's previous glory as both a Catholic Mission and now a thriving parish and school. The Basilica reflects the beautiful adobe architechture and houses many antique religious effigies and altars. The tomb of it's founder, Father Sierra Junipero is displayed in the museum building as are the living quarters of the monks which are preserved in their original decor and artifacts. Tours are available or you can come and walk the grounds during their operating hours at your leisure. Any trip to Carmel would not be complete without experiencing this exhuisite gem of Carmel's past history.

Please call the Mission to check on the holiday schedule.

The all-inclusive admission fee to tour the Mission grounds, Basilica and Museums is a follows: Adults: $5; Seniors: $4; Children under 17: $1.

Although there are stairs in some places, almost the entire property is wheelchair accessible.

Please be aware that the Carmel Mission is an active parish and as such has services on Sunday mornings and events such as weddings or funerals on Saturdays or during the week, which may limit accessibility to the Basilica itself.

Self-Guided Tours:
Visitors tour the Mission on a self-guided basis, however, throughout the week; trained Docents are often available to augment your visit. A docent-led tour schedule is developed monthly based on docent availability. If your schedule permits for a docent-led tour, it is sure to enrich your experience of the Mission. Docent led tours are available for $7.
