Carl Yamada 60th Birthday Bash

Outside of promoters, club owners and the musicians themselves, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who has meant more to the Bay Area jazz scene than Carl Yamada. "Every jazz gig we have, he comes," says Maxwell Borkenhagen, artistic director of Cafe Stritch. "He is one of our biggest proponents." The "Bay Area's Jazz Ambassador" is turning 60. To celebrate, Stritch is throwing him a party, which will feature a live performance of Miles Davis' quadruple-platinum masterpiece, "Kind of Blue," and a free-form jazz jam.
