The University of San Francisco’s Museum Studies Graduate Program, Museum Studies Graduate Association, and Orchard Hotels are proud to host “Building a New Museum on the Washington DC Mall: The Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture” on Thursday October 23rd from 1:00-2:45pm in McLaren 250 on the University of San Francisco Campus. Lonnie Bunch III will speak about the process of building the new museum and his work to develop human rights practice and diversity in museums. Bunch has directed the museum since 2005 and is a prominent museum professional and author. His latest book is titled Call the Lost Dream Back: Essays on History, Race and Museums. Dr. Mary Wardell-Ghirarduzzi, Vice Provost for Diversity Engagement and Community Outreach at USF and a recent recipient of the Hero Award from the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, will introduce Mr. Bunch. A free reception and book signing in the Mary and Carter Thacher Gallery will follow.
