Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers are internationally recognized as one of the top bands performing classic American jazz, swing, blues and R&B from the mid-20th century. Long-time Bay Area favorites, they are lead by the sultry chanteuse Lavay Smith, whose vocals recall the best of Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith and Dinah Washington. The band is guaranteed to provide a good time and will surely rock the house at Blue Note Napa.
Lavay’s performances evoke a sensuous era of Jazz queens and sexy pinups to which she adds a modern, feminist twist, combining world-class singing and musicianship with hilarious, provocative lyrics. Whether singing her own compositions or drawing on a large repertoire of classics, Lavay and her swinging 7-piece group bake up an instant recipe for a fun evening.
Lavay and the group have toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and Canada. They have performed at many of the top international jazz festivals, and they are one of the most popular acts in the history of SFJAZZ.
The Red Hot Skillet Lickers band includes all-star musicians who collectively have been heard with the likes of Ray Charles, Etta James, Frank Sinatra, Santana, Wynton Marsalis, Taj Mahal, Van Morrison, Tito Puente, Vince Guaraldi and many other giants of American music. Lavay has released three critically acclaimed albums on her own Fat Note Records, most recently gaining a 4.5-star review in DownBeat.
