Blood & Dust
Some music you listen to and some music you just feel! Blood & Dust writes music that you feel in your gut and it makes you think about the world you live in; you can listen to his music and say, “I’ve been there before.” Blood & Dust is an Oakland based musician and songwriter. Born in the Midwest and raised in the south his music reflects his roots; each song features passionate lyrics and melodies that catch you and hold you. If you love great music you’ll love Blood & Dust.
Penny & Sparrow
Penny & Sparrow were listed by Buzz Feed as #2 of 50 SXSW bands to know and The Huffington Post as #4 of 30 SXSW acts about to break in 2014. They have also been selected to be part of the Austin City Limits (ACL) Festival lineup for this October (Oct.10-12). There's good reason this Austin acoustic duo are garnering such attention and praise. When so much of radio is a blur of popstars, synthesizers, drums, and light shows – here, two honest men lay bare the simple poetry of sound. Andy Baxter’s voice floats like smoke over old wood – and is further raised up by Kyle Jahnke’s own guitar and piercing vocal harmonics. They write music that effortlessly draws you in with their deep, moving lyrics that are intimate and relational in nature reminiscent of Bon Iver and The Swell Season; along with possessing that rare quality to captivate an audience to the point you can hear a pin drop. Their latest album “Struggle Pretty” (released 4/22 and rose to #2 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts) is vast with instrumentation and creativity, while still staying true to the harmony-centric roots found in “Creature” and “Tenboom.”They’ve created a soundtrack like no other. Even the name “Struggle Pretty” seems to hold up to the light the very essence of life – that struggle itself can contain the beauty of life – and can even help create it. Their storied harmonies give us permission to be human.
DonCat
As a youth, Duncan 'DonCat' Nielsen's grandma gave him an odd pile of European released Beach Boys tapes, which lead him to the record store searching for other oddities. Coming from a family of music enthusiasts, including a dad with a penchant for Cream and the blue shades of Jimi Hendrix, a brother with drum line credentials and a composer himself, and a mother who did Linda Ronstadt's version of Blue Bayou at her high school talent show, he was poised for writing melodic music in a nostalgia-brand rock and soul format. He currently lives and makes music in the Corona Heights district of San Francisco, CA.
