BLACK, WHITE, RED – A Sculpture Show

at Sculpturesite Gallery (see times)
A new leaf gallery | sculpturesite is pleased to announce the exhibition "BLACK, WHITE, RED - A Sculpture Show," on display from Jul. 13 - Sept. 29, 2013. An opening reception will take place at the gallery on Saturday, July 13 from 2-4pm.

Removing chroma from artworks yields a black, white and gray palette. Removing gray offers a study in intense contrast. So what happens when one strong color, Red, is added back into the Black and White mix? "Gathering works by 14 artists from as far as Romania to create a cohesive sculpture show based entirely on color (or absence of color) was a fascinating challenge!" says Brigitte Micmacker, gallerist and curator. "In this exhibition, my purpose is to add the pop of red to the high contrast of black and white. Contrast is still absolute, but chroma is back."

The resulting exhibition features work in various materials, subject matters, and prices in Black, White, Red or any combination. We are delighted to have Bella Feldman rejoin us with this show, and to introduce four new artists: Harem6, comprised of Romanian pair Ildiko Muresan and Flavia Marele, presents a series of wall-hung works in a unique hybrid of drawing and sculpture; North Carolina's Mellie Lonnemann shows figurative ceramic work; and Bay Area artist Carol Koffel will create a site-specific installation by balancing delicate white porcelain catchments on an architectural structure of red masonry line. Also, internationally recognized glass artist Mary Shaffer shows a group of "Tools" in steel and glass; Deanne Sabeck brings her dichroic glass to life with light; Feldman and JP Long offer works in blackened steel and white glass; Michelle Knox debuts two polished glass columns; Gordon Halloran uses bold patterns from his ice paintings in a mixed media work; Jorge Blanco has a new painted aluminum figure; Steven Maslach cast three new glass pieces; Jane Burton created a new ceramic figure, and Emma Luna shows her award-winning "Tall Stack" in porcelain.
