Big Harp George • CD Release Show

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Big Harp George (Bisharat) burst onto the national blues scene in 2014 with a stunning debut entitled “Chromaticism” that was nominated both for a Blues Music Award and Blues Blast Magazine award for “Best New Artist Album,” prompting one blues critic to comment: “I haven’t been this impressed by a harmonica player’s national debut since William Clarke’s 1990 tour de force Blowin’ Like Hell.” Named one of fifteen rising harmonica stars by Living Blues Magazine that same year, George may be the first and only recorded blues player to make the chromatic harmonica his full time instrument. The results are a dramatically fresh and sophisticated sound, with influences from jazz and swing. BHG is a subtle but soulful vocalist, and his originals range from slyly humorous to piercingly dark and melancholy.

George was a criminal defense attorney, award-winning professor of law at UC Hastings College of the Law, and expert commentator on law and politics in the Middle East before turning to music full time.

Wash My Horse in Champagne, Big Harp George's current release, like Chromaticism, includes a roster of Northern California blues standouts: Little Charlie Baty, Kid Andersen, J. Hansen, Chris Burns, Mike Rinta, and others.

George says:"This album offers my take on 21st century West Coast blues in thirteen original songs. The lyrics derive from my own life and personal experiences, including those gained living and traveling abroad. I hope listeners get half as much fun out of listening to this as I did recording, because I had a ball! My aim is to bring something fresh and exciting to blues while respecting the traditions laid down by the founders of our genre."
