Beginning to Advanced Sewing - 15 Hour Workshop

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Designed for beginners and advanced sewers alike, this 15 hour workshop is designed like a lab. You have the opportunity to bring your own pattern and receive the individual help you need on your unique project. Join Barbara Beccio as she brings over 20 years of sewing experience to the table. You will learn how to find your size in a pattern, layout your pattern, proper pinning, cutting and pressing, how to thread and sew on a machine using basic stitches and finishing techniques. This class can be repeated many times, making a slightly more advanced project each time. Students are required to bring their own supplies, which is fun because you can choose your own fabric & pattern! We highly recommend Piedmont Fabrics on Piedmont Ave or Stone Mountain & Daughters Fabrics and New Pieces in Berkeley for your supplies.

Required Supply List

Your chosen pattern
Fabric - check the back of your pattern & your sizing to know how much to buy & pre-wash and dry your fabrics, especially when making garments.
Notions - be sure to check the back of the pattern envelope for pattern needs such as buttons or elastic, etc.
PLEASE MACHINE WASH AND DRY THE FABRIC PRIOR TO CLASS.

Suggested Supply List (to add to your toolbox!)

Good Sharp Scissors for fabric (if you are left handed, bring left-handed shears).
Paper Scissors
Straight Pins - Dritz Quilting Pins are a good all-around pin
Seam Ripper
2” x 18” clear plastic ruler with 1/8” increments
Thread
Sewing Machine Needles - 10, 12
Hand Sewing Needles – Sharps – Size 7
White water soluble dressmaking pencil, white tailor’s chalk clover makes a nice chalk
Tape measure
Notepad and pen
Mechanical pencil.
It's always nice to learn on your own sewing machine! Please bring your own machine if possible. If you need a machine provided please let us know at: [email protected]
Also, Please do not get the "Master Robe" Kimono style bathrobe pattern if making a bathrobe. It's not a well drawn out pattern and has been more trouble then what its worth.

Skill Level
all welcome

Beginning Students - It is highly recommended that you refrain from purchasing print fabric that would need to be matched. A better choice is an all-over print, batik, or solid fabric. Knits can be challenging and are not recommended for a beginning project.
