ABOUT THE ARTWORK:
Upon Reflection
Bay Area Photographers Collective
Curated by Stephen Wirtz
Reflection is essential to all seeing and photographers are adept at finding many shapes and meanings in it. In this presentation from the Bay Area Photographers Collective, we see how they capture a moment in time, atmosphere, and the quality of light, sometimes more than once.
In some photographs a portion of the image is duplicated directly, as a mirror-image seen in water. In others a subtle reflection sets off a stronger rhythm and symmetry. One photographer uses reflection to call our attention to the duality of natural aging and the commercial depiction of bodies in advertiseing. This duplication, symmetry, and juxtaposition are all aspects of art we can enjoy upon reflection.
