The San Francisco Foundation (TSFF) is inviting the Bay Area community to join together to unlock opportunity throughout the region with Bay Area Bold, an engaging and dynamic community summit and festival on Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26 at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and Yerba Buena Gardens.
Bay Area Bold will bring leaders, visionaries and innovators together with the larger Bay Area community for two days of fresh thinking, connection, artistic and cultural activations, and celebration. In a region in which people-of-color are the majority, communities of color will continue to drive growth and change into the foreseeable future. The Summit is a call for collective regional action to tap into this potential, unlock opportunities for all people in the Bay Area, and work together for racial and economic inclusion.
"Today, our options are clear. We can continue on a path where fewer people contribute to and benefit from the region’s prosperity. Or, we can embark on a path to create a climate of greater economic and racial inclusion so that race, economic status, and zip code will no longer determine one’s future and opportunities for success,” said Fred Blackwell, CEO of The San Francisco Foundation. “Together, with our partners, we choose the latter, the path to greater equity.”
Bay Area Bold builds on the Foundation’s timely VOICE: Bay Area initiative. Over a seven-month period, CEO Fred Blackwell and his team hosted listening sessions throughout the Bay Area. More than 1,000 participants representing all sectors of the community candidly shared their day-to-day struggles, inspirations, challenges, and successes. Informed and inspired by what they heard through VOICE: Bay Area, and bolstered by the compelling data from 2015 The Bay Area Equity Profile, TSFF is forging a path for its next decade of work that begins with Bay Area Bold.
Featuring live performances, community art-making, TED-style presentations, engaging discussions and much more, Bay Area Bold is a unique two-day event that will elevate civic engagement, highlight social innovation, and foster new connections to advance economic and racial inclusion in our vibrant region.

The winner will be determined by a live and online public vote. and will receive a $20,000 award from The San Francisco Foundation and strategic workshops with Full Circle Fund to leverage the expertise of our joint Bay Area network. The winner will also be featured in a series of short profiles on KQED television and radio.
On Saturday, September 26, it’s time to celebrate community with a free day-long festival of music, dance, film and interactive artistic and cultural activations from Bay Area Bold partners and festival participants.

The winner will be determined by a live and online public vote. and will receive a $20,000 award from The San Francisco Foundation and strategic workshops with Full Circle Fund to leverage the expertise of our joint Bay Area network. The winner will also be featured in a series of short profiles on KQED television and radio.
On Saturday, September 26, it’s time to celebrate community with a free day-long festival of music, dance, film and interactive artistic and cultural activations from Bay Area Bold partners and festival participants.

TSFF’s Community Leadership Awards will be the culmination of this day of celebration, recognizing Bay Area leaders in the community who are daily working to better this region. Award winners are individuals and organizations that have demonstrated excellence in leadership through deep local understanding and outstanding initiative. The awards are designed to advance community-driven, innovative and sustainable solutions to critical issues facing the Bay Area.
