Seeking an outlet outside of his heavy riff rock project, Lions, singer Matt Drenik created the solo project, Battleme. What began as a series of lo-fi folk excursions soon included more jarring genres like electro, garage and sludge metal. Battleme's earlier soft acoustic cover of Neil Young's "Hey Hey, My My"-one of about eight of the artist's tunes featured on various seasons of TV's Sons of Anarchy-sounds much different than the 2012 self-titled album that came later. It's fuzzy, dance-y, thrashy and, at times, heavy. Drenik's take on these diverse sounds creates a surprising cohesion. (Stephen Layton)
