Please join Green Apple Books, and The San Francisco Elks, in welcoming author Barry Gifford to the next round of ‘Cocktails and Conversation at The Lodge’ on Monday November 25th from 7pm – 8:30pm when we celebrate the release of his recent collection of short fiction, The Roy Stories.
Barry Gifford is the multiple award-winning author of more than 50 works of fiction, poetry and essays, as well as numerous screenplays. His novel Wild at Heart was adapted as a hugely successful film for David Lynch. Barry has also been the subject of two film documentaries, the Los Angeles Times calls him “a master” and Jonathan Lethem says, “Barry Gifford invented his own American vernacular—William Faulkner by way of B-movie film noir and Sun Records rockabilly.” His current collection, The Roy Stories, is a 40-year chronicle of his personal history from the late 1940s through the early 1960s —think Hemingway’s Nick Adams stories with a dollop of pulp and a gram of grit.
The historic San Francisco Elk’s Lodge on Union Square in downtown San Francisco is a private club and has been one of the city’s best-kept secrets since 1925.
This free event is open to members of the general public, and is certain to be not only a wonderful evening, but also a rare chance to spend quality time with a living legend in swanky digs!
