The Lab presents the 3rd installment of the Remote View series, curated with Jon Porras and Evan Caminiti of the band Barn Owl. Tonight is a celebration of the release of Barn Owl's new album, "V."
Barn Owl
Barn Owl has always specialized in devotional darkness, pushing desert rock into previously unexplored, murky territories. V marks a shift in approach for the duo of Jon Porras and Evan Caminiti. The pair augmented their arsenal of guitars and effects with an array of electronics, vastly expanding the album's sounds and textures. Special attention was given to implied rhythms nestled within dense slow-building environments, giving the album a rhythmic presence, albeit one that is buried beneath intricate layers. Theirs is a ghostly rhythm — almost beyond reach.

Vereker
Vereker's latest EP, with the title track referencing a Fassbinder film, is reminiscent of 90s industrial and techno — put through a meat grinder. It's chock full of paranoia, deceit, and all things bad that happen that you wish never would. The EP continues in a bleak unforgiving manner, painting a grim picture of a decaying present and lost futures. Heavy music for the dark hours.
