Early thrash bands like Slayer and Metallica rattled underground music fans with a fusing of '70s metal (Sabbath, Iron Maiden) with the speed of '80s hardcore (Black Flag, Minor Threat). Yet hardcore and thrash metal were two very distinct scenes. A handful of bands emerged in the mid-'80s, further blurring that line between metal and punk. It was called crossover thrash. The big names were Suicidal Tendencies and Corrosion of Conformity. But right alongside them was Walnut Creek's Attitude Adjustment. Unlike many such bands from back in the day, Attitude Adjustment haven't really slowed down their tempos: they still kill it. (KF)
