Real Estate Bio:
Fresh off the release of their critically acclaimed third album Atlas, Real Estate are sure to provide the perfect soundtrack for this year’s Cal Day. On Atlas, Real Estate have perfected their sound, which is hallmarked by interwoven, reverb-soaked guitar arrangements, wistful lyrics, and catchy melodies. Their current lineup includes the three core members of the band, singer/guitarist Martin Courtney, guitarist Matt Mondanile (of Ducktails), and bassist Alex Bleeker (of Alex Bleeker & the Freaks), as well as drummer Jackson Pollis (who joined the band in 2011 shortly after the release of their second album Days) and keyboardist Matt Kallman (formerly of San Francisco’s now defunct Girls). Since the release of their debut in 2009, Real Estate’s unique brand of guitar pop has been evoking nostalgic sentiments both sunny and autumnal. The band has toured each of their three releases relentlessly, and having just wrapped up the first set of tour dates for Atlas, they’re poised to make this year’s Cal Day concert the best one yet!
Grizfolk Bio:
The story behind the band Grizfolk unfolds like a richly episodic Beat novel: it's a collection of vignettes that give way to one another with ease; their songs like chapters in a traveler's cherished diary, suspended in time and space above an aural landscape of blue-collar romanticism and electro-inflected folk-rock.
Their songs speak of dusty deserts and the vagabonds that inhabit them, mixing America’s country music heritage with that of an electro-pop persuasion: It's where folklore meets four-on-the-floor; where tumbleweeds meet turntables. Songs that sound both futurist and revivalist at once; fashioned from a casually-indefinable collage of synth-pop squelches, junkyard percussion, undeniably catchy hooks and boot-stomping guitar lines.
