Ashling "Biscuit" Cole: Teena Marie Birthday Tribute

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Former Yoshi's San Francisco Location - Now Closed (see times)
Ashling Cole, or as her adoring fans call her – “BISCUIT” is one of the most dynamic vocalists the San Francisco Bay Area has to offer. Her soaring voice and unparalleled professionalism make her a first call talent in the arena of R&B, funk and gospel.

For the last four years, Biscuit has spent most of her time performing and touring with legendary bassist, Larry Graham, sharing the stage with some of the greatest artists of all time including Carlos Santana, Sheila E., Maceo Parker, Marcus Miller, Dave Koz, and Michael MacDonald. Highlights have been performing with Prince at Madison Square Garden and festivals in France and Belgium in front of 60, 000 fans.

Biscuit’s chops did not appear overnight. Many years spent with the San Francisco Girls Chorus studying opera, The Academy of Media and Theatre Arts and A.C.T. studying musical theatre, provided her with an array of skills including music theory, sight reading, dance and comprehensive actor training that have helped her remain versatile and in demand. It was only a matter of time before her talent was broadly recognized.

Growing up in San Francisco, her influences ranged from Bruce Springsteen, Huey Lewis & The News, and Van Morrison, to Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Bobby “Blue” Bland, and Stevie Wonder. She was often compared to Teena Marie, and when she heard “Casanova Brown”, the passion, the emotion, the soul that was felt on that record rocked Biscuit to her core and dramatically changed the kind of singer and performer she would become.

With the passing of Teena Marie leaving a huge gap in the hearts and ears of funk fans globally, Biscuit’s tribute to Lady T stems from a lifelong admiration and appreciation for soul music’s most innovative underdogs. Biscuit embodies, quite naturally the charisma and passion of Lady T and as soon as she hits the stage you will agree, no one is more qualified and ready to accept the passing of this torch.
