Red Bull Music Academy joins forces with San Francisco's As You Like It collective, presenting a stellar night of high-profile house and disco DJs. Expect Glasgow’s infamous DJ duo Optimo, Running Back head honcho Gerd Janson, LA's Academy graduate Suzanne Kraft and AYLI's Rich Korach on October 25th at Monarch.
Optimo:
Jonnie Wilkes and Keith McIvor - alias JG Wilkes and JD Twitch - are Optimo. Founded for a Sunday night in November 1997 at Glasgow’s The Sub Club, these boys have risen to worldwide fame with a music policy and party attitude that crosses borders, religions and philosophies of all kinds. They gave up the night in 2010, setting their sights on a more regular international touring schedule as well as clearing out more time to focus on production.
Gerd Janson:
A treasured member of the RBMA team, Gerd Janson is a busy purveyor of good times and tastes around the world. One half of the studio duo Tuff City Kids with Phillip Lauer, Janson has kept it consistently bubblin’ over the years at his Liquid party at Robert Johnson in Offenbach. Formerly a frequent writer for Groove and Spex magazines, he can now mostly be found hanging out at juice bars and airport departure lounges on the international DJ circuit, when he isn’t putting out records by Move D, Radio Slave, Tensnake and the like on his own Running Back label.
Suzanne Kraft:
Operating under his solo moniker on labels like Young Adults and Running Back, DJ and producer Diego Herrera aka Suzanne Kraft channels the best of baggy Manchester house, syrupy Balearic disco, and kraut-inspired pop within his music. He’s also part of LA’s über-prolific Dublab crew and plays synth for 100% Silk act Pharoahs. Kraft’s suave, ethereal chords jut up alongside rubbery bass lines, blending the sophisticated sheen of the Paradise Garage with the never-ending sun and mutant aesthetics of his Venice Beach residence.
