After the massacre in Orlando, Florida, many local leaders are using the power of art and performance to raise money for LGBT communities. One long-time San Francisco juggernaut, Bernadette Bohan, is unveiling huge pieces of art and organizing drag performances, DJs, and catered food to take over DaDa Art Bar on July 7th to raise money for Community United Against Violence, a local organization that supports the wellness of LGBT people suffering abuse.
The large-scale artwork created by Bernadette- an explosion of colorful landscapes made entirely out of toys, reminiscent of Pop Art and the Dadaist movements- will be the perfect complement to the funky interior of the DaDa Bar. The work explores themes of gender roles and environmental degradation.
The vibrancy of the San Francisco art scene remains to help the city rebuild after tragedy.
