Accordion virtuoso André Thierry lays down soulful, R&B-inspired original Zydeco in English and French. Born into a family deeply rooted in Louisiana French-Creole culture, he is among the best Zydeco musicians today, Gulf Coast and West Coast included. The ensemble plays everything from traditional Creole waltzes to hard driving blues, garnering Grammy nominations and the West Coast Blues Hall of Fame award for “Best Zydeco Group” (2008 & 2012) along the way. The 2014 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival at Yerba Buena Gardens in downtown San Francisco runs May 4 through October 26, 2014 and presents over 90 free events including music, theater, circus, dance, poetry, festivals and children’s programs with artists from Africa, Japan, Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, the Philippines, Sweden, China, Venezuela and the Bay Area. This year’s Festival features events at Jessie Square with poetry, dance workshops and salsa dancing. Yerba Buena Gardens is located between Mission Street and Howard Street and 3rd and 4th Streets in downtown San Francisco.
