As many of you know, our beloved 222 Hyde is closing it's doors. We are all heartbroken because of it. It seems like yesterday when we all gathered for the first time at what we now affectionately refer to as "The Rave Cave."
I will never forget the opening night. It was a sweat box. Eo and company's hard work had finally paid off and he had been able to re open the club with one of the city's best sound systems. 4 point Turbo Sound, 3 turntables, 2 Cd decks, and a beautiful and very rare Allen & Heath mixer with rotary faders and a lovely cutoff filter. For me personally, it has been the nicest and most thrilling place I have ever played and I'm honored to have been a part of it. I'm sure many of the djs that have played there would agree.
Dave Javate and I presented Staple's Darkroom party, which was a success for the year and a half that we did it. Others like Sammy D's Loveletters, Lance DeSardi's Bang The Box, Alland Byallo's Nightlight, Carla TuTu's 222uesdays, Conor & Solar's No Way Back, Jeno & Garth's Back2Back, Tyrel William's Acid Test, Jason Greer's We Are Monsters, Corey Sleasemore's Lights Down Low, Alex Windsor's Lift, Nikola Baytala's Bionic, and many more parties were among the greatest the city has seen, and they can thank 222 for providing the venue.
Let's take this opportunity to thank Eo, Katie, Grant, Scotty, Pookie & Kenneth for the amazing club, bar and food. We will never forget.
It's worth mentioning how this night came together. It was almost like the stars were aligning... I was at We Are Monsters last week and I happened to see Mark Farina across the dance floor. Ironically, it was his first time there and he loved what he saw and heard. He came up to me and told me that he would love to play here one day. My answer was simple. I said "Done." I then found Eo and we came up with the date and... well, done. Mark Farina at 222 Hyde became a reality.
It had always been a dream of mine to be able to book the man in SF to play for our scene. He's one of the world's best, he's a Chicago legend, and he calls San Francisco his home. Yet, we rarely get to hear him play. Why?? He's usually booked to play at the larger venues and of course that attracts the masses, and then of course, that leaves less room for our scene of friends and family who create the sounds, parties, and venues that we all use.
Needless to say, this will be a night not to be missed, a night to remember.
Because of all this, we will NOT be promoting this party to the general public if we don't have to. This is an invite only event. If there are folks that have been omitted, please let Eo or myself know and we will add them to the event.
120 people in the rave cave for Mark Farina. YES please!
