The latest in a series of events leading up to a rare Bay Area appearance by beloved Cuban poet Nancy Morejón, who will be at The Emerald Tablet on June 9th, this evening will feature a special screening of two films on Morejón and her work:
Nancy Morejón: Paisajes célebres / Famous Landscapes (2013), 54 minutes long with English subtitles. Directed and produced by Juanamaria Cordones-Cook. This documentary offers a unique perspective on contemporary Cuban culture and intellectual life through the world and artistic achievements of one of its most celebrated poets, Nancy Morejón (Havana 1944), as well as through the voices and images of prominent Afro-Cuban intellectuals. The music was performed by Richard Egües, Marta Valdés, and Elena Burke.

A-One-Of-A Kind Book by Estevez (2012), 14 minutes long with English subtitles. Directed and produced by Juanamaria Cordones-Cook. Documentary chronicling the conception and creation of Rolando Estévez Jordán’s sculptural book based on Nancy Morejón’s poem, “I Love My Master.
