SF Station Blows It Up

1. Les Savy Fav @ Coachella Music and Arts Festival, Indio, April 25, 2008

There's nothing like roasting in the sun…well unless you're also listening to some good bands and watching some interesting people at Coachella. This year's Coachella Music and Arts Festival was really hip, with every kind of hipster band you could imagine from Justice to Cut Copy but also with some old favorites like The Verve, Portishead, Roger Waters and Prince gracing the stage. Overall, it was an interesting mix of new and old with some great highlights like Roger Waters performing the Darkside of the Moon in its entirety, Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip mix it up and The Raconteurs rocking the main stage with tunes from their new album.

2. DeVotchka @ The Fillmore, San Francisco, April 28, 2008

I guess Denver has something to offer when it comes to indie rock…and DeVotchka just makes it that much sweeter. With a mix of Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, and Mariachi music with American punk and folk, this four-piece is something to see. This past Monday I got off a plane coming from Coachella and headed to The Fillmore to see them and, man, was it a great show; they mixed beautiful lighting and great performers with a pair of hot acrobats.

3. I Am From Barcelona @ The Independent, San Francisco, April 29, 2008

Seeing 17 people take the stage is always impressive but it doesn’t mean its going to sound good, but in the case of I Am From Barcelona, man, did it sound good! With happy pop songs that made the entire place stand on edge and dance, the army of I Am From Barcelona gets my vote. It was a must see show with crowd surfing, balloons and even confetti.
