American Exceptionalism explores the relationships we hold with objects and our perceived ownership of space. The American propensity to lay claim to the environment and all that it contains hearkens back to the conception and fulfillment of Manifest Destiny, leading to a modernized need for total control over the natural environment. The installation of sod within Residence SF is an invitation for the audience to meditate on their relationship with space and leave their own physical imprint upon it, with no supposition of intent. As the commoditization of objects and experiences propagate our peripheral consciousness let's step back and consider the origin of the object and the ownership we infer by categorizing it as such.
r/SF will be open for viewing:

4/21: 2-7pm
4/22: 2-8pm *Closing party 8-10pm!*
